This is a non-violent, mass action that will powerfully demonstrate the broad opposition that exists in this country to the presidency of George Walker Bush. People who can't make it to DC for the Inauguration Day Action are putting together plans for local actions around the country. Here's a few ideas for local actions. Get a mask, dress up as George W, and at the same time as we're turning our backs in DC, get a crowd to turn their backs on you. You can download a printable mask or order one. Find another representative of Bush's policies - weapons manufacturers, corporations that are outsourcing American jobs — and plan an action to turn your back on them. Be sure to tell your local newspapers and tv stations about your action — its a good way for them to have a local angle on the inauguration and the Turn Your Back on Bush action.

By staying home from work, by not buying products from chain stores, by turning off their cable TV, by not buying (or using) gasoline or other oil-based products, by not making long-distance phone calls — in an infinite number of ways, Americans will send George Bush a message he sorely needs to hear. America expects accountability, transparency, humanity and justice from an administration which has, up to now, provided little in any of these areas.

On January 20th, join in a day of fasting and prayer for peace and democracy. This idea was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, whose work in the form of nonviolent resistance helped to free India from one of the most powerful forces of that time, the British Empire. Many people question the legitimacy of [the Bush] presidency after he won two terms in close elections fraught with intentional voter suppression... Mr. Bush endangered the United States and the world with his unnecessary aggression... Therefore, please join in this action of nonviolent resistance. Do not go to work. Call in sick, take a vacation day, or find another way to avoid work on that day. Do not spend money. The corporate economy that has supported this war needs to get a message.

The corporate-controlled media has been silent and passive during the unfolding events since the fraudulent election of 2004, unwilling to investigate widespread reports of electoral irregularities, even law-breaking, particularly in poor and minority communities. What little recount coverage appears tends to belittle and ridicule our efforts to defend and expand democracy in Ohio and by extension in the rest of our nation as well. And it's not only the recount that gets ignored. Send your message to the media, demanding that they cover the real news. We want to blitz the media with as many letters, column submissions, and articles as possible about the importance of defending democracy — and opposing stolen elections — in America.

Well, they did it. They certified another election rife with voter interference, corruption, and intimidation. There is only one thing left for progressives of all political affiliations to do: Run! Don't run to Canada. Don't run for cover. Don't even run for momma. Run for office!
